Welcome to

Reinwood Infant & Nursery School

Reinwood Infant and Nursery School is a welcoming and forward-thinking school located in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. As part of the Heritage Multi Academy Trust, the school provides education for children aged 3 to 7, including Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Situated close to the centre of Huddersfield, the school benefits from strong links with the local community and offers a nurturing environment where every child is valued and supported.

We share the school building with the Junior school, with the Infants using the majority of the ground floor. Clear arrangements between the head teachers and the two governing bodies ensure the smooth running of the building, which caters for approximately 760 pupils.

We have nine classes within the Infant School (three Reception classes, three Year 1 classes and three Year 2 classes) and a Nursery class. There are approximately 324 pupils on roll, including 78 Nursery pupils, some of whom are part-time and some are full-time (i.e. 30 hours provision).

There are extensive playing fields to the rear of the building, a wildlife area and an Outdoor Learning Classroom within our woodland area.

Nursery and Reception pupils both have their own playground areas, which are very attractive and well equipped. Years 1 and 2 share two additional playground areas to the front of our building that encompass a ball court, playground markings/games and a soft-floor playground gym.

We also have a large playing field with a bespoke Ninja Warrior course, to encourage health and fitness. We see the outdoors as very much part of our learning environment.

At the heart of the school is a strong ethos built around its motto, “I can”. This reflects a shared belief that all children can succeed and make progress in a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment. Staff, pupils, parents and governors work closely together to create a culture of teamwork, respect and belonging. The school places a strong emphasis on kindness, positive relationships and helping children to develop confidence, independence and resilience from an early age.

The curriculum is carefully designed to provide a broad and engaging learning experience, combining strong foundations in English and mathematics with a rich range of foundation subjects. Learning is supported through practical, hands-on opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, with extensive outdoor spaces including playing fields, a wildlife area and woodland learning environments. These facilities enable children to explore, investigate and develop a love of learning through real-life experiences.

Reinwood Infant and Nursery School is organised into two key phases: the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) and Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2). This structure allows staff to work collaboratively and ensures a smooth progression as children move through the school. There is a strong focus on inclusion, with high-quality teaching and tailored support to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring every child is able to thrive and reach their full potential.

The school also places great importance on wellbeing and behaviour, promoting a positive and respectful environment where children feel safe, happy and ready to learn. Clear expectations, consistent support and strong partnerships with families help to build a community where everyone works together to support each child’s development. Reinwood is proud to be a place where children enjoy learning, achieve well and leave with the confidence and skills needed for the next stage of their education.
